Mobile Lab = Nexus 1 = Google Phone

The phone is called the
Nexus One
Google by HTC Corp.,
runs Android
SOLD DIRECTLY TO CONSUMERS FROM GOOGLE WEBSITE!! BRILLIANT!

Google Phone becomes official!! After rumors for all over the web. http://macspotlight.blogspot.com/2009/12/google-phone-by-google-true-or-false.html One thing is for sure, the pace at which Google is evolving is stepping on everyone's toes even their own allies. This might make HTC, Motorola & T-mobile a bit nervous... Posted by Mario Queiroz, Vice President, Product Management confirms that it is true the phone is being tested. What's not clear is why they felt that they should make their own phone rather than improve on what their partners are doing. Steve Ballmer thinks their confused and can't figure them out.

While the rest of the millions that went out to buy the dozens of new Androids and waiting for the Eclair Update 2.0. Google's on to the next one.

We recently came up with the concept of a mobile lab, which is a device that combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities, and we shared this device with Google employees across the globe. This means they get to test out a new technology and help improve it.

Unfortunately, because dogfooding is a process exclusively for Google employees, we cannot share specific product details. We hope to share more after our dogfood diet.

But rest assured that whatever Apple releases this summer that's currently being tested in San Francisco might blow out the steam from this project if Google doesn't get it right.

CNET TV Associate Producer Jason Howell, who had a very brief hands-on with the gadget Friday night and first relayed the news on Twitter, confirms that the "mobile lab" device is an HTC phone running the Android 2.1 operating system.

"I knew it was an HTC device," Howell said. "It looked like the Touch, but was a lot thinner...it was a slick-looking thing and very nice." He also spotted a trackball and four standard Android menu controls, and he said the display was "supersharp" and rivaled that on the Motorola Droid.

The phone is “really, really fast,” says someone who has seen one in action. It runs on a Snapdragon chip, has a super high-resolution OLED touchscreen, is thinner than the iPhone, has no keyboard, and two mics. The mic on the back of the phone helps eliminate background noise, and it also has a “weirdly” large camera for a phone. And if you don’t like the touchscreen keyboard, a voice-to-text feature is supposed to let you dictate emails and notes by speaking directly into the phone.

even Wired and Walt Mossberg Shocked:Palm Pre now at $79.99 84% off list

The prices of the phones are dropping day by day. This maybe Palms strategy to get rid of unmoving inventory before the holidays and everyone rushes in for the discounts on the iphones etc... As seen below from the tweet from Walt Mossberg and Wired Magazine that the smartphone wars are indeed getting brutal. But it's a smart chess move on Palms part to make the best of the sales before others start over the holidays. As we've seen the blackberry curve, bold and storm are a penny now too

RT @wired: Think the smartphone wars aren't brutal? You can get an "iPhone killer" Palm Pre now for 80 bucks — 84% off list.

Even the seasoned tech Guru's Walt Mossberg surprised RT @waltmossberg: Whoa! Drastic cuts! The Palm Pixi I reviewed yesterday is now $25 on Amazon down from $100; the Pre dips to $80 from $150. (via @kabster728)

Blackberry 8520 another small timer with Alzheimers

With phones these that come with 16-32Gigs... 256MB phones are in the wrong weight class... To make it more interesting it's the first blackberry that's lost it's marbels... It's the first with no trackball... but at the entry price of $49.00, I guess they can get away with it... We have to thank the good folks at Apple... if the iPhone wasn't out, you could be sure they would have priced it at $199... iPhone has humble players on the market..

The features are a light weight body 3.8oz/106g ,
256MB on board memory and 256MB flash,
a crisp High-resolution 320x240 pixel color display
talk time of Up to 4.5 hours

Where it differs from the Tour released last week on Verizon & Sprint is it has no trackball, lighter and has WiFi... Though the Tour has a better display High-resolution HVGA 480x360 pixel color display

Some Twit terachi folks believe the blackberry Gemini has a chance "@animalsteele: New Blackberry Curve 8520 $48.88 and It's FIRE; No trackball" @AnimalSteele is a hiphop taste maker and is behind the success of some of the industry's best. But will he be right about the T-mobile's new Blackberry Sidekick?

Twitter slams TechCrunch Journalists, what to take from this?

In a unfortunate event, a hacker compromised Twitter's system and offered the documents to a journalists. Both events Twitter was not understandably happy about, their data being compromised and the release of the information by the journalists. In the Twitter blog they lashed out at the Journalists by saying:

Twitter is more than jotted-down notes from a handful of meetings. Our future will be shaped by the passion and inventiveness of everyone who uses Twitter and through the execution of our ideas. Nevertheless, the publication of stolen documents is irresponsible and we absolutely did not give permission for these documents to be shared. Out of context, rudimentary notes of internal discussions will be misinterpreted by current and future partners jeopardizing our business relationships.

We are pursuing a path to address the harm caused by these actions and as noted yesterday, we've already reached out to the partners and individuals affected. @Biz

What can we learn from this situation? 1. Never use the same Password for multiple sites 2. Twitter was lucky that their vulnerabilities were exposed, though not in a away anyone would want it. 3. Lots of companies are now on guard not to repeat the same mistake 4. Luckily by the problem being exposed, it prevents other people from secretly monitoring their date or other peoples data.
